Crap In The News

Apart from my daily reading of the smh.com.au another source I regularly read for a bit of "whot's goin on at ome" is news.com.au. So my "news" comes from both an online broadsheet and what could loosely be described as a tabloid, but this week they sunk to a new low* as they attempted to broadside Gordon Ramsey. Now "ole Gordo" is usually good for an expletive or two and is not shy of the old blow-up, but here he was dignified, respectful and I think spot on.

As for the "reviewer" the journalist sat next to at Maze, What did he think he was getting, you order a steak "well done", you have just asked the kitchen to cook it until its burnt to a cinder and has no flavour or juice left, and then you try to complain about it. And as for news.com.au trying to make this "news" worthy...FFS, if I hadn't been reading it on my MAC I would have used it to line the bottom of a bird cage.

In a week where papers, the TV, and the Inter-geek was flooded with messages about MJ, a poor little black kid who rejected his race and sought to squander his millions on plastic surgery to become white all while molesting little boys dominates the news, instead of focusing on the "deaths for oil" debacle that is the Middle East, or rather the thousands losing their jobs with no easing in sight, this instead is the best some papers can come up with...something is seriously wrong in the world.

*I think someone in the editorial team must have purchased the journalists in his team shovels.

.... or .... due to the ongoing mess in the Middle East (and let's not forget Korea, shall we?)(and Urumqi, while we're at it) and the seemingly unending global economic woes, people are desperate for distraction and any semblance of good news and are finding what they need in the news of the death of a suspected pedophile.

In all seriousness, you can't blame the newspapers and news channels for this lopsided coverage. These are commercial entities owned by large global conglomerates and their first responsibility is to make a profit. They're basing it on what their market research tells them people want. Michael Jackson sells newspapers. Middle class families losing their houses doesn't.

Spike: I know that is the reason. I just object the waste of my time as I was mislead by a headline and directed to a video-feed in which someone complains about ordering a well-done steak and then getting a well-done steak.

I realise in this insta-microwave-on-demand-world its all about distraction and entertainment rather than infotainment and the news...but I still think it makes getting the facts a whole lot harder.

I was going to say, thankfully we have the Inter-geek for the facts, but this whole thing started from crap I found on there.

Dude, the news is about whatever sells the papers and increases the circulation and readerships so they can go brag about the statistics to advertisers...you think they really give a shite about producing "quality" news?

...and yes, honestly, I don't give a damn about MJ's death. Why bother, if you ask me.

Sounds like you can do way cooler things with your Mac.

So glad you're back. I keep humming the Indiana Jones theme. -dunh-dah-dunh-dunh-dunh-dah-duuuunh-

Did he reject his race? I heard that he had vitiligo.
He might have rejected himself as a person, but I don't know about race.
Did he really molest the children? I have not seen or heard any hard evidence to that regard either. Being accused of something doesn't make you guilty of it. In fact, the last I heard, he was acquitted of all charges.
I am no great fan of Michael Jackson -- just a fan of what is true and correct.
