I read something the other day (or maybe it was even this morning) about the death of blogging, how the success of itself is now slowly imploding under the weight of both its success and the fact that it is both now accepted in mainstream media (or at least being tolerated) and the fact that after a fad like phase that its simply too hard for many people...or as it said in the article: too much effort for too little return.

I have regularly read and, unfortunately, watched many blogs come and go...some died as a result of life's intrusions, some a change of status, some saw fame bring about their demise, and sadly at least one chronicled the last days of a dying mum who left her blog to spend her final days with those she loved. I have seen blogs change directions, so as to be unrecognisable from where they had been...maybe these were the most honest as they chronicled a life not stuck in a rut but rather one living, growing and moving if not forward then at least with a purpose. I have seen my blog change, and seen readers tell me that I had drifted from the words they enjoyed...and right now I am seeing myself bereft of words...or rather unsure of the words and what I want them to say.

And so I sit, procrastinating, absorbed with other interests, and distracted by life...

...mmm, but is that the way it is with all hobby's, we take a dose of interest, inject some passion and like a viral affliction we wrestle with it for a time until we are cured...or rtaher distracted by something newer, brighter, and as equally fleeting?

My good buddy E@L is oft known to lament anything that restricts his freedoms, hinders his progress or generally gets in the way of him "finding shit out"...So as I have read in the last months about the Australian Governments push to have a National Internet filter, I really have to wonder what he makes of this future restriction to all Internet access for Australians?

mmm...PM Rudd seems to be wanting us to have closer ties with China in ways far exceeding trade and industry.

Oh and in other news, it seems philandering husbands with long term mistresses may have to pay them "maintenance" if they try to end the affair. Since the law now classifies them as a defacto relationship, regardless of eithers marital status...mmm (see here)

Inspired Copying

The removal/deletion of the blog Prince of Damnation brought and continues to bring a big smile to face today. And before some of you jump to the conclusion that the now absence of alternative looking anti-religious writings is a thing of joy in my life I think I should explain...

The Prince* was and is an arse-hole.

And while there may indeed be some redeeming features in the subclass of species known as the arse-hole there is little to find of a nature deserving either time and/or effort if that arse-hole also belongs to a category called: Plagiarist.

That's right the arse-hole had a blog, a blog in which he ripped off not only mine but also a number of other talented writers. So thanks to Mykel at The Sea Within for alerting me to this, and further thanks to him for alerting all the Bloggers that this arse-hole was ripping content from.

So apart from scathing "attack" comments I plastered all over this now defunct Blog yesterday evening this did actually get me thinking, especially as to the fine, or maybe its not so fine, line between plagiarism and inspiration.

I mean I am inspired by many things, when I write it is often the musings of others that spin my wheels and get my mind dancing along thought paths otherwise left untrod. It is very often a photograph that inspires me to look at my own camera and wonder at the how and the possibility of emulation. And I wonder should one acknowledge one's photographic inspiration as one does the written ones. Or is it as someone on a forum I read suggested that each photo captures a moment and unless you were to shoot at the same time as another you are not plagiarising you are simply catching a moment that passed before your eye...and that to recreate a scene, inspired by another, is still not to copy the original but to merely be inspired by it. This is a bit different when it comes to words, when I guess such actions, to copy, to highlight, to right-click and then save and claim as your own...

...it is theft. Simple. No excuses. No reasons. Just plain, theft.

* Unlike and not to be confused with Niccolo's excellent treatise on how one should conduct affairs of state.

Writing Or Taking

So it seems my friend Smoot and I have a similar problem. It's not that we have nothing to say, it's not that we have stopped observing and viewing the world, its just that we have been spending too much time behind a lens and so our camera's have tended to take over where fingers once danced across the keyboard.

So instead of the quiet time in contemplative repose, pen poised and dead tree blog at hand, it has been a quiet repose, lens affixed to face, telephoto zooming in to catch those around unaware and in their wild states. So while I am balking at simply just posting photo after a photo, or even a photo a day, I do see more images creeping into this space if only to justify the huge credit card bill that has gone along with new lenses, tripods, filters, memory cards, bags*, etc...

Now if I could just stop this habit I have picked up of walking around looking at the world as a rectangle, searching for the perfect angle or wondering how I would pose someone into that frame... ~grin~

Oh and just for M, I shoot with a Canon 350D + BG-E3 . EF-S 17-85mm 4-5.6 IS . EF 75-300mm 4-5.6 IS.

* Yes it was expensive, but its not the same as a purse, or even a murse and besides I promise it does look very Indiana Jones ~grin~
